What is plant priming?

Priming is a natural adaptive response mechanism that improves the defensive capacity of plants by activating a plant's innate physiological and evolutionary immune defenses to respond to biotic and abiotic stress.

Just as a vaccine can prepare humans to quickly combat a disease, induced priming can elicit a plant's natural combative responses to react to future stress and/or pathogen challenges.

Priming elicitors are compositions of natural key elements, which provide a positive plant stimulatory growth response that benefits agricultural productivity while also supporting sustainable production practices and ag ecosystem regeneration.

Expanding the use of priming elicitors will make commercial agriculture and home gardening more sustainable by enabling plants to reach their natural biological growth potential and by minimizing the need for additional inputs (e.g. excess fertilizer, excess crop protection chemicals, etc.). Our priming products do not harm the soil or any organism (e.g. soil microbes, beneficial insects, etc.) and act only by activating (eliciting) natural plant responses.

We are in the process of advancing the development of new product compositions and formulations, and analytical tools to guide differential application rates and timing. Because we don’t act directly against the disease vector, regulatory timelines are quite manageable with resulting favorable time to market for new product compositions and formulations.

One important example of a new product that has resulted from our recent research is the development of a dry formulation that is suitable for seed treatment applications. Early testing indicates that this product is highly effective when applied as a seed treatment, enabling expanded potential for broad acre applications in a variety of row crops.

Multi-year replicated field trials and validations completed on a wide variety of crops, climates and soil conditions worldwide have consistently demonstrated the enhanced value (ROI) and efficacy of using BAM-FX as part of a grower’s standard program. Higher profit margins are achievable through increased yield and crop value, the ability to salvage crops that would otherwise have to be destroyed, and the potential savings from rate reduction in other crop protection inputs.
