What is plant priming?

Priming is a natural adaptive response mechanism that activates a plant’s innate defenses to boost its ability to withstand abiotic and, ultimately, biotic stresses.

Just as a vaccine can prepare humans to quickly combat a disease, induced priming can elicit or stimulate a plant's natural responses to withstand future stresses caused by challenges from the environment and the presence of pathogens.

Priming elicitors are compositions of natural key elements, which provide a positive plant stimulatory response that increases a plant’s resiliency to stressors and thus increases agricultural productivity and yield while also supporting sustainable production practices and regenerative agriculture.

Expanding the use of priming elicitors will make commercial agriculture and home gardening more sustainable by enabling plants to reach their natural biological growth potential and by minimizing the need for additional inputs (e.g., fertilizer, crop protection chemicals, etc.). Our priming products neither harm the soil nor directly affect any organism (e.g., soil microbes, beneficial insects, etc.) and act only by activating and stimulating innate natural plant responses to enhance crop yield.

Expandability & Optimization

We are in the process of advancing the development of new product compositions and formulations, and analytical tools to guide differential application rates and timing. With proper application and timing, we are observing that through enhanced plant vigor and nutritional bio-availability response, the plant unlocks natural growth potential (yield and/or quality) and, in doing so, increases resistance to environmental stressors such as drought and disease, with the potential for reduced rates of crop protection and fertilizer inputs. Because we boost a plant’s natural resiliency and resistance to stressors, these products have a biostimulatory, non-pesticidal effect and are not subject to costly and lengthy pesticide regulatory approval processes.
One important example of a new product that has resulted from our recent research is the development of a dry formulation that is suitable for seed treatment applications. Early testing indicates that this product is highly effective and efficacious when applied as a seed treatment, enabling expanded potential for broad acre applications in a variety of row crops.

Replicated field trials and multi-year validations completed on a wide variety of crops, climates and soil conditions worldwide have consistently demonstrated the enhanced value (ROI) and efficacy of using BAM-FX as part of a grower’s standard program. Higher profit margins are achievable through increased yield and crop value, the ability to salvage crops that would otherwise have to be destroyed, and the potential savings from lower use of other crop inputs.
